We had the first tanning bed in Cincinnati, and the appointments filled up immediately at $10 per appointment.

Business grew to a size where we had to work shifts at all stations. One designer would work 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the next would work 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.

In 1987, we brought internationally renowned stylists and educators to Cincinnati to train our stylists, a tradition that we have maintained ever since.

The First Kenwood Mitchell’s

We took a deep breath and moved the Montgomery salon to Kenwood.

Our salon interior was featured in all the beauty salon trade publications. We were setting the standard for other salons to meet.

We went from 2,500 to 10,000 square feet—from one facial room to an actual spa—from twelve hair stations to thirty.

What a place!

In 1991, we created our first signature haircut, "The Mitch."

It was so exciting to have clients come in with photos of a hairstyle Mitchell’s had created and request that style.

Tri-County Opened

Mitchell's continued to expand, adding a second location.

Hyde Park Opened

Mitchell's opened in Hyde Park, making it our third location!

We traveled to NYC for our first ‘Big City’ photo shoot.

West Chester Opened

Mitchell's opened in West Chester, adding another premier spa location and making this our 4th location!

In 2008, we celebrated 25 years!

Mitchell's celebrated 25 years, and we would gladly do it all again! With 400 employees, we were voted Best Spa in Cincinnati for the fifth consecutive year.

In 2009, Kenwood Re-Opened

The original "mothership" moved to an even bigger and more beautiful location—our first spa with a Relaxation Room. It was heavenly.

Forty years ago, Deborah Mitchell Schmidt opened the first Mitchell’s Salon on Montgomery Road with a bold vision to create a luxurious experience that nurtures beauty from the inside out. What began with ten employees and one woman’s unstoppable drive has grown into a Cincinnati institution rooted in education, innovation, and care. Deborah’s passion, work ethic, and belief in continuous learning remain the pillars of our company today.
